Two récent plein air studies at Hythe

These are two small 220 x 160 Jullian Pochade plain air studies recently

Painting and canoeing for the day, when I was tired of one I did the other. My son Barnaby was with me enjoying the first trip in the boats for 2012.

The top image is a little way from the Hythe Imperial towards the Fisherman's beach. Painted in just over an hour. Crowds of people enjoying the sunny day, filled the scene with colour.

The lower image, painted at the end of the day, was further along towards fisherman's beach. A couple of dog walkers entered the scene, and found their way into my painting.

My new one man show at Haddon Galleries in Torquay, starting tomorrow for two weeks.
So if you are around and want to take a closer look please do not hesitate to drop by.
Sadly my commitments have not allowed me to be there in person on this occasion, but I know the owners Fiona and Paul Haddon will be delighted to show the work.
If you see please drop me a message as to what you thought.
Best wishes
Paul

This was taken by my son Barnaby, whilst I was painting a near nocturne well a 25 minute study on the beach at Hythe the other night, 8.55 to 9.20 working fast and furiously to capture the rolling clouds and a rapidly setting sun, with a force 8 wind in my ear.
Barnaby has a natural flare with images, and I feel will go far with his photography.

He has taken some others which I really like and will post here soon.

Sunset over Fisherman's Beach
Oil on panel 12 x 16

One very recent image of the beach near to my studio in Hythe. It depicts the Fisherman's Beach looking towards the famous Napoleonic forts of Wellingtons defences known as Martello Towers. This is one of my favourite places to paint plein air, and I have several recent works to share with you, including the study for this painting

Tiger Portrait 12 x 16 oil

Just finishd this painting which started life a couple of weeks ago as a Big Cat demo at my workshop in my studio. I liked it a lot so spent a little more time on it to bring it to a conclusion

This is a lot more fresh and spontaneous than previously painting and I enjoyed the process of painting it.

'The Grey'

20" x 28" Oil on Natural Canvas.

This is one of my more recent works and a long overdue subject matter of the Grey Wolf.
My son Barnaby, who is so interested in Wolves, inspired this canvas.

The wolf was one of several studied at the West Yellowstone National Park refuge where I visited a few years back with artist friends Mat Hillier, Lindsey Foggett and John Mullane.
We painted our way around Yellowstone.

This work will shortly be available through my one man show at Haddon Gallery
Torquay starting June 16th for two weeks.
